How To Apply

To qualify for an Iowa Friends of Foster Children Foundation grant, the child must be currently in Iowa’s foster care system. The foster child, case worker, juvenile court officer, parent, foster parent, therapist, counselor or any other interested person may apply for a Friends Foundation grant. The foster parent or provider, the case manager and the foster child all must approve the grant request with their signature.

What types of items can be applied for?
Application can be made for items that are of benefit to a foster child when there are no other resources available to cover the costs. Every item or opportunity that is granted is meant for the foster child, and must be taken by the child when they leave their placement. The amount of the request needs to be detailed and itemized including vendor information. Some of the items and opportunities the Foundation has been able to help foster children obtain include:

Items not covered by a grant include birthday or holiday gifts, basic clothing, furniture, or any other items covered by foster care stipends.

What is the maximum grant amount?
The maximum grant allowed per year is $200 per child. This is based on availability of Foundation funds.

Who reviews the applications and how often?
Grant applications are only reviewed once a month. Please allow time for the grant to be reviewed when considering the date for your grant request. You will be notified in writing of the decision by the Board of Directors. Decisions will be made on an individual basis.

How are grants paid and what verification of funds spent is needed?
Checks for grant applications will be paid directly to the vendor or sent directly to the foster parent for reimbursement. Receipts for grant expenditures must be sent to the Foundation for audit purposes. Receipts must outline the grant expenditures in detail and include the vendor contact information.
